Mesothelioma Financial Issues

Having a diagnosis of mesothelioma may have a financial impact on the sufferer and their family, whether they are still employed or have retired.  This may range from the costs of attending medical appointments, transport, or having to pay others to help with gardening, housework or other assistance.

For all mesothelioma sufferers there are payments available to lessen this financial burden.

State Benefits

The UK State Benefits system can provide assistance.  In most cases, this will consist of a lump sum payment of several thousand pounds and one or more weekly payments – regardless of financial circumstances, employed or retired.  However, specialist advice is recommended to navigate the process and to assist with applications.

Legal Mesothelioma Compensation

Mesothelioma is caused by exposure to asbestos fibres – often between 20 and 60 years before the first symptoms appear.  If those responsible for that exposure (or their insurers at the time) can be located, it may be possible to bring a legal claim against them for financial compensation.  If successful, the claim should provide financial security for the sufferer and their family.  Bringing a mesothelioma claim should not involve you in any personal cost whatsoever provided you seek advice from a specialist solicitor.
